At Auto China 2026, Nissan accelerated its electrification strategy by premiering two plug-in hybrid concepts: the Terrano PHEV and the Urban SUV PHEV. These models signify a major expansion of the brand’s NEV SUV lineup, specifically tailored to meet the evolving demands of the Chinese market.
The Terrano PHEV Concept marks a rugged revival of the iconic nameplate, blending a boxy, off-road silhouette with modern hybrid efficiency. Meanwhile, the Urban SUV PHEV Concept targets city-dwellers with its sleek, minimalist aesthetics. By introducing these versatile NEV SUV options, Nissan aims to bridge the gap between traditional combustion engines and full electrification.
The term New Energy Vehicle (NEV), commonly used in China to describe vehicles with new-type power systems, including Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs). They are characterized by higher efficiency and lower emissions.
