Nissan showcased its autonomous-drive (AD) technology in Yokohama’s Minato Mirai area, a first in Japan, where a testing vehicle with no driver on a public road in a complex urban environment. The company developed the autonomous-drive (AD) technology for a mobility service it plans to launch in Japan.
Nissan used a Serena minivan as their test vehicle, the minivan is equipped with incorporate 14 cameras, 9 radars and 6 LiDAR sensors. In addition to the cameras and radars, Nissan also use of AI to significantly enhanced image recognition, behavioral prediction and judgment as well as control, delivering smooth operation in a variety of complex scenarios.
Nissan plans to conduct further testing in Yokohama from 2025-2026, with the goal of launching autonomous mobility services by 2027. This initiative is supported by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; other government ministries, and Yokohama City.
