Mercedes-AMG just announced that the company is preparing to launch their first standalone SUV.
In their press release, the company said that “For the first time in its 57-year history, Mercedes-AMG is developing an SUV entirely in-house. The groundbreaking off-roader, ‘Born in Affalterbach’, is built on the company’s proprietary AMG.EA electric high-performance platform.”
The company also added that the “development vehicles are set to undergo initial test drives this winter.”
In their latest SUV Project, the company is designing the entire vehicle architecture from the ground-up. This new full-sized “Born in Affalterbach” SUV will be the second model built on the all-electric AMG.EA high-performance platform.
AMG is known for their High-performance SUV and sports car, and all are designed Affalterbach, the company’s HQ in Germany. Mercedes-AMG currently have six SUV model lines, including GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS, and EQE SUV. You also have the ML 55 AMG and its crown jewel of the performance-driven off-roader lineup, the Geländewagen Mercedes‑AMG G 63.
The details for the new High-Performance SUV are still limited but if this new AMG.EA model is already in testing, we may hear more from Mercedes-AMG in the coming months.
