Tesla has introduced a versatile 7-seater configuration for its popular Model Y SUV in Europe, catering to families and individuals seeking additional passenger capacity. Initially available exclusively for the Long Range all-wheel drive variant, the third-row option adds €2,500 to the base price, starting at €57,490 in Germany and £53,500 in the UK.

The third row features two forward-facing seats that fold down when not in use, giving easy access thanks to second-row seats that slide and fold forward. While the third row is designed primarily for children due to its “jump seat” configuration, two USB-C ports are included for charging devices.

The addition of a third row naturally impacts cargo space. With all seven seats in use, the Model Y offers 363 liters of trunk storage, combined with a 117-liter front trunk for a total of 480 liters. Folding down the third row increases cargo space to 753 liters. Compared to the 5-seater Model Y, which offers 854 liters with rear seats up and a maximum of 2,158 liters with rear seats folded down, the 7-seater configuration provides a maximum of 2,040 liters of cargo space.

Tesla positions the 7-seater Model Y as the ultimate family SUV, emphasizing its versatility and suitability for daily commutes and long-distance journeys. The company’s press release states, “The Model Y was designed from the outset to be the perfect family SUV, offering great versatility. Hundreds of thousands of households worldwide have chosen the Model Y as their primary vehicle for their daily commute and long-distance journeys. With the introduction of the 7-seater option in Germany, we are taking versatility to a new level.”

The 7-seater Model Y will be produced at Tesla’s Gigafactory Berlin in Germany. While initially limited to the Long Range all-wheel drive variant, there’s potential for the option to be extended to other Model Y configurations in the future.

By offering a 7-seater option, Tesla aims to attract a wider range of buyers in Europe, where larger families and flexible seating arrangements are common. As the most popular EV in the region, the Model Y’s expanded options are expected to further solidify its position in the European market.

In the United States, depending on the interior, there will be an additional $1,000.00 or $2,000.00, when ordering the 7-seater Tesla Model Y.
